Cold weather equipment for Cars

cold weatherDuring the cold periods at the start of the year I would like to advise firstly all motorists to ensure that all vehicles are
equipped with all they need to deal with harsh weather, poor road surfaces and any incidents which result from these.

As a minimum the AA advises that in winter conditions motorists ensure that they carry the following…

- Blanket, rug or sleeping bag
- Shovel
- Bits of carpet or thick cardboard to place under driven wheels to help regain traction
- Salt, sand or cat litter – to help clear snow and ice
- Reflective jacket
- Ice scraper or de-icer
- Torch and batteries
- Tow rope
- Snow chains (if living in a rural area)
- Battery jump leads
- Bottled water
- Snacks – chocolate or cereal bars
- Extra screen wash

From the Minutes – Emergency Response Guidance Plan to be produced

Cllr Fleming reported on his attendance at the conference “Speed Training” held at
Cottingham School.

A number of Emergency and allied Services were represented.

The focus of the event was to bring a greater cohesion of response to any emergency.  This was brought into focus as a result of the recent flooding in Hull and East Riding areas. Each service outlined their area of responsibility and how they inter-reacted with others.
It was suggested that various bodies could also play an important role in this and local knowledge could be most valuable in such circumstances. It is suggested that Parish Councils should each formulate an Emergency Plan.

Councillor Fleming proposed that of the three suggested plans Full, Abridged and Guidance that Molescroft because of its size and situation should create a Guidance Plan.

Agreed – Guidance Plan to be produced
Action: It was agreed Cllr Ritchings should progress this proposal.

Hudson Way Footpath Cleared after Parish Pressure

Good news for all that use the Hudson way footpath!

hudson wayThe footpath has become increasingly overgrown recently, however, after pressure from Molescroft Parish Council  and assistance from Ward Councillors , ERYC have cleared the overgrown Hudson Way footpath through to Lockwood Road

The archives and local studies team at the Treasure House have produced a set of themed archive video compilations on DVD.

They will be making them available to clubs and societies across the East Riding.

The DVDs last for about an hour and include an audio commentary. Groups will able to rent the DVDs for seven days for a £20 fee. The team can post them to your door for a small additional fee.

DVDs available include:

A walk on the Wold side: a look back at Wolds villages over the past 20 years

  • Bridlington and the East Yorkshire coast
  • The colour of Beverley: an East Yorkshire town in the 1960s
  • Beverley industry
  • Crossing the Humber

From the Minutes – Flood planning

molescroft floodCouncillor Brown had recently attended a flood planning consortium meeting which
had been established to pressure ERYC to improve, repair and maintain drainage
systems. Councillor Brown had attended on an individual interest basis.

It was agreed that Councillor Brown should be nominated as an official representative of
Molescroft Parish Council.
Agreed – Councillor Brown nominated as official representative on the group
Action – Councillor Brown.

From the Minutes – Replacement Trees at the Pavilion

It was agreed to replace the damaged trees planted in Autumn 2010 by the Rotary Club of  Beverley and to put tree guards around both the new and remaining trees.

The Clerk advised that the cost of the tree guards might have to be met from reserves at the end of the financial year. Councillor Fleming agreed to look at the costs involved in replacing the trees and if the same supplier could provide tree guards.
